Dubrovnik in 3 days: the perfect itinerary
Dubrovnik rewards a little patience: time the walls right, climb the hill for the view, escape to an island, and the city opens up beyond the day-tripper crush. Here's three days that balance the icon with the calm.
Day 1 — The walls & the old town
Walk the city walls at opening time or late afternoon — never midday — for the famous circuit above the rooftops and sea. Inside, see the Rector's Palace, the Franciscan monastery's medieval pharmacy, and the unflinching War Photo Limited. Our Dubrovnik museums guide maps them out.
Day 2 — Srđ, the cable car & Lokrum
Ride the cable car (or hike) up Mount Srđ for the classic view and the Homeland War museum in Fort Imperial. In the afternoon, take the short boat to the green island of Lokrum to swim and escape the crowds — or kayak around the city walls at golden hour.
Day 3 — A day trip: Mljet, the Elaphiti or Pelješac
Give the third day to the wider region. Mljet and its national-park lakes are an easy ferry south; the Elaphiti islands (Šipan, Lopud, Koločep) make a relaxed island-hop; or drive the Pelješac peninsula for wine, plus the great walls and oysters of Ston.
Choose a base from our boutique stays in Dubrovnik — just outside the walls is often calmer and better value.
