Where to snorkel in Croatia
The Adriatic is clear, calm and warm from June to October — perfect for snorkelling. You won't find tropical reefs, but rocky shores, seagrass meadows and astonishing visibility make for lovely, easy underwater wandering.
The Pakleni islands, Hvar
A short taxi-boat from Hvar Town, the Pakleni islands have a string of clear, sheltered coves ideal for drifting over rocks and seagrass. Bring fins and you can island-hop the little bays.
Vis & its caves
The far-out island of Vis has the cleanest water in Croatia and dramatic spots like Stiniva cove and the sea caves of nearby Biševo. See Vis from Split.
Brač & the quiet coves
Away from Zlatni Rat, the coves around Bol and Supetar on Brač drop quickly into clear blue, with fish around every rock.
What you'll see & bring
Expect bream, wrasse, the odd octopus, sea urchins (watch your feet) and the occasional seahorse in the seagrass. Bring water shoes for the pebbles and a mask of your own — rental gear is patchy outside the bigger towns.
