Vidova Gora & Biokovo: Dalmatia's big two climbs

6 June 2026 · 6 min read

Central Dalmatia has two big viewpoints that dominate the skyline — one on an island, one on the mainland. Both can be driven, but earning the view on foot is the better story.

Vidova Gora (Brač)

At 778 m, Vidova Gora is the highest peak of any Adriatic island. The trail from Bol climbs through pine to a cliff-edge plateau looking straight down on Zlatni Rat and across to Hvar. Take water and a hat — there's little shade up top. Roughly 2 hours up.

Sv. Jure (Biokovo)

Behind the Makarska Riviera, the grey wall of Biokovo rises to Sv. Jure at 1,762 m, one of the highest peaks in Croatia. On a clear day you can see Italy across the Adriatic. There's a road and the famous glass Skywalk, but serious walkers tackle it from the coast — a long, demanding day.

Practical notes

Both are best in spring and autumn; summer middays are brutally hot and exposed. Start early, carry more water than you think, and check the Biokovo park access and road conditions before you go.

For mainland routes too, see best hikes in Croatia, or the gentler island hikes.
