Money & tipping in Croatia
Short and practical: what you'll pay with in Croatia, and how much to tip so you don't over- or under-do it.
The currency
Croatia uses the euro (since January 2023). Cards — including contactless and phone payments — are accepted almost everywhere, but it's worth carrying some cash for small konobas, markets, taxis and island spots.
ATMs & a warning
Use bank-branded ATMs where possible. At standalone machines (and some card readers) you'll be asked whether to be charged in euros or your home currency — always choose euros and decline the "conversion", which carries a poor rate.
Tipping
Tipping is appreciated but modest. In restaurants, rounding up or leaving around 10% for good service is normal; there's usually no service charge on the bill. For coffee or a drink, locals just round up. Taxi fares are typically rounded; tour guides and boat crews welcome a few euros.
