The best sunsets in Dalmatia

6 June 2026 · 5 min read

The Dalmatian coast faces west into open sea, which means sunset is a nightly event — and some spots turn it into theatre. Here's where to be when the light goes gold.

Zadar — the Sea Organ

Alfred Hitchcock called the Zadar sunset the most beautiful in the world, and the waterfront makes a show of it: the Sea Organ plays music from the waves while the Greeting to the Sun light installation glows underfoot. Arrive early for a spot on the steps.

Hvar — the Fortica

Climb to the fortress above Hvar Town for the sun setting behind the Pakleni islands — one of the great island views.

Primošten & the islands

The stone town of Primošten on its little peninsula glows at dusk, and almost any west-facing island terrace — from Korčula's walls to a Vis harbour — delivers.

Dubrovnik — the walls & Buža

Walk the Dubrovnik walls late in the day, or drop through a hole in the seaward wall to the Buža bar, clinging to the cliff with the sun sinking over Lokrum.
